Bilingual Education Initiatives

In alignment with the bilingual education initiatives of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and the internationalization of higher education, the Department of Industrial Education continues to promote English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses. By integrating English into professional courses, the Department provides students with opportunities to acquire professional knowledge and engage in academic learning and communication in English.

The Department primarily promotes bilingual education through course instruction. According to the learning needs of different degree programs, English-medium courses are offered at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels to gradually establish a learning environment that integrates professional knowledge with English proficiency. Through these courses, students are encouraged to develop their professional English communication skills, academic expression, and capacity for international academic exchange.

By integrating English into professional courses, students not only acquire knowledge in areas such as Industrial Education, Technical and Vocational Education, and Technology Application and Management, but also gain exposure to international academic literature, professional terminology, and relevant research information. This helps students develop the ability to understand, communicate, and present professional content in English.

EMI Courses

(1) Undergraduate Program

The Department offers EMI courses in the undergraduate program. By incorporating English into professional course instruction, students can develop their professional knowledge while becoming familiar with English terminology, instructional materials, and academic resources relevant to their fields of study.

EMI courses also provide students with opportunities to experience an internationalized learning environment. Through these courses, students gradually develop experience in learning and communicating about professional subjects in English during their undergraduate studies, preparing them for further study, future careers, and participation in international academic exchange.

(2) Master’s Programs

The Department offers EMI courses in its master’s programs. In conjunction with graduate-level professional learning and research training, these courses provide students with opportunities to study professional subjects in English, read academic materials, and participate in research discussions.

Through EMI courses, students can further develop their abilities in professional English reading and comprehension, academic information gathering and analysis, professional communication and presentation in English, and participation in international academic exchange. In this way, English proficiency is integrated with students’ professional studies and research training.

Doctoral Program – Graduate Program in English (GPE)

The Department’s doctoral program offers the Graduate Program in English (GPE), using English as a medium for professional learning and academic communication. The program provides doctoral students with an English-medium learning environment for professional studies, research discussions, and academic exchange.

Through English-medium courses, doctoral students develop the English skills necessary to read international academic literature, participate in research discussions, present and publish academic work, and engage in international academic activities. Credits earned from the relevant English-medium courses can be counted toward the graduation requirements of the doctoral program, providing students with a comprehensive and continuous English-medium learning experience.

The GPE also provides a suitable English-medium learning environment for international students who wish to pursue advanced education and research in Taiwan. Through English-medium professional courses, research training, and academic exchange, international students can participate in the Department’s doctoral studies and research activities without Chinese being the primary language of instruction, while engaging in academic exchange with faculty members and students from Taiwan and other countries.

Through the GPE, the Department is committed to fostering a diverse and internationalized learning and research environment, promoting academic interaction and collaboration among students and researchers from different countries.

International Academic Exchange and Conferences

In addition to English-medium courses, the Department regularly organizes international conferences on Technical and Vocational Education, providing students and researchers with opportunities to participate in international academic exchange.

The conferences welcome scholars, researchers, and professionals from Taiwan and abroad to submit and present their research. The Department also invites experts and scholars from Taiwan and overseas to deliver keynote speeches and academic presentations. Topics cover areas including Industrial Education, Technical and Vocational Education, Technology Application and Management, and other related professional fields. Depending on the speakers and the nature of the event, presentations are delivered in Chinese or English.

Through international conferences, keynote speeches, and research presentations, students have opportunities to learn about research developments and professional trends from different countries and regions. They may also present their research in English, engage in academic discussions, and interact with scholars from Taiwan and abroad.

Through EMI courses, GPE courses, and international academic activities, the Department continues to broaden students’ international perspectives and cultivate professionals with strong professional expertise, English communication skills, and the ability to participate in international academic exchange.
